I See You in the Days Gone By

It’s easy to think about God working in your life in the present. He must be working on something, taking me somewhere, right? It’s even easier to think about Him working in your future. God is all knowing. He is taking care of our careers, our families, etc. But it doesn't end there. We often forget to do is to look over our shoulder at where we have been. Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to relive your past but rather to reflect on where you have been and how God has been with you. Every step of the way.

Hillsong Young and Free released their new album entitled III on June 29th. The entire album is amazing. Listen to it straight through and hear God speaking to your soul. Amazing. Anyway, my favorite song is called “Days Gone By.” This post is based around this song. Darling, He’s been there. Guiding you, whispering in His still voice, trying to get you to pay attention to His Way of doing things. While you were making crazy, stupid decisions that made you feel empty, He was with you in each decision, begging you to come sit at His feet. While you were running so fast in the opposite direction you could barely catch your breath, He was sprinting alongside you. He has never left your side. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been. Drugs, alcohol, bad relationships, familial issues, problems with self-esteem, insert your struggles here—He hasn’t let go of your hand, beloved. He is a gracious and merciful God. There is nothing you could ever do to make Him turn His back on you. He is always calling, always forgiving, always...just…there, for you. And He will never leave, even if you believe you should be given up on. Because He never gives up. To Him you’re worth dying for. Romans 8:34 says, “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Jesus died because of all the things you feel guilty about. Every shameful and disgusting thing you’ve ever done hung Him on that cross. But He rose again so that now you are made clean and washed white in His eyes. You are perfect and blameless in God’s eyes, thanks to Jesus. So pray and thank Him for everything He has done in the “days gone by” and take comfort in His perfect love.

“Days Gone By”

Hillsong Young and Free

VERSE 1

I walked the world afar

Built up a thousand walls

To try and hide away

I searched to find my soul

A journey far from home

Lost in a life I’d made

And I’d been ‘round in circles

Living for the moment

I know I ran so far

Was acting kind of crazy

Coming up with empty

Felt like I lost my heart

PRE-CHORUS

Now I’ve found a love that

Is clearer than the deep blue skies

It’s true You were right there

I can see it in the days gone by

CHORUS

I see You in the days gone by

Your promise never left my side

I know sometimes I tried to give up

Still You caught me when I fell from high

I see You in the days gone by

VERSE 2

You took my fragile fate

And didn’t hesitate

Your love in every scar

Passion with no restraints

Held back the darkest days

So now my life is Yours

You’ve got me when I’m broken

You’re with me when I’m hopeless

I know You’re never far

Your mercy has no ending

It perseveres unfailing

You’ll always have my heart

BRIDGE

See You in the days gone by

See You in the days gone by

And I need You everyday ‘cause

CHORUS

I see You in the days gone by

Your promise never left my side

I know sometimes I tried to give up

Still You caught me when I fell from high

I see You in the days gone by.
