A lot of thought goes into the places that I write on in my Bible. I hate being distracted by marks everywhere and I love that on the page I did highlight something, my eyes go right to it. It screams, “IMPORTANT!” immediately and my eyes are drawn to it.

Here are some verses that I want highlighted, and maybe you will too.

1. Psalm 46:10a – “Be still and know that I am God”

In case you haven’t figured it out already, this is my favorite verse. It is my favorite for many reasons, but in particular, it reminds me to slow down and remember God is in control. Check out another blog I wrote where I dive into this verse a little deeper!

2. Genesis 50: 19 & 20 – “but Joseph said to them, ‘Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives’”

I don’t know that I will ever not be in a place in life where I do not relate to Joseph. I mean I’ll probably never be a ruler of Egypt, but the highs and lows in Joseph’s life are something that I relate to. Joseph is an encouragement to persevere in the valleys and a reminder to stay humble on the mountaintops.

3. Psalm 56: 3 & 4 – “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?”

Can I just put the whole book of Psalms in here? While I say that jokingly, I am also serious. Psalms is full of encouragements and convictions and everything in between. I love this verse because it reminds us that God is so much greater than mortal man.

4. Proverbs 12:25 – “an anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up”

This verse was my personal verse while I was on the Orientation Team at school earlier this year. Starting a new school can be scary and can cause anxious feelings. This was my reminder to keep everything I said to the incoming freshman kind.

5. Proverbs 19:21 – “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”

While I am including all the Psalms, I am going to include all of Proverbs too, Okay? Sometimes, it seems like you aren’t doing college right if you don’t have a plan. I have to constantly remind myself that it is perfectly fine if I don’t because God’s plan is the one that matters anyway.

6. Matthew 10:32 – “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my father in heaven”

How cool! This is our reminder to be bold and to live out our faith. In return, Christ tells God that we are one of his.

7. James 1:12 – “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him”

Sometimes we don’t get the opportunity to be physically rewarded for overcoming trials in this life. Sometimes we just level out to our normal. We’re looking around saying we just went through the darkness and can not find our reward. That’s okay! Ultimately our reward is eternity in heaven and I am convinced that nothing will measure up to that.

Seven verses do not even come close to capturing all the verses that are noteworthy in the Bible. It does not even scratch the surface, but hopefully, it is a starting point.
